Physical Education

Our aim at Cana Catholic Primary School is to provide the opportunity for our students to safely experience a range of sporting activities for their fun and enjoyment.

We strive to provide rich and engaging teaching through a planned Prep to Grade Six Physical Education Program. This program aims to promote the development of motor skills, knowledge of different sports and the importance of fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle.

In addition to this, we endeavour to provide opportunities for all children to

experience competition at various levels, both individually and as part of a team. This is enabled through various lunch time activities and our Inter-School Sports Program.

Our Grade Five and Six students participate in the School Sport Victoria – Interschool Sports Program.

Arts Program (Visual Art)

The Arts are an important part of the curriculum, and at Cana, we currently run Visual Arts in Semester One and Drama in Semester Two.

The Visual Arts program teaches students a variety of techniques and elements used to create different artistic creations as well as providing students with an understanding of significant artists throughout history. Students are given the opportunity to use their creativity and explore techniques, skills and processes using a range of materials.

It is the great artist, Pablo Picasso, who said that “every child is an artist”.

Arts Program (Drama)

In Drama, students participate in Drama games to build Drama skills. Students learn to work with a script and use voice techniques, facial expressions and body movements to develop and portray a character. Drama teaches students about the importance of working in a team and helps to develop their self- confidence. Students learn to give positive feedback and receive constructive feedback from their peers.

Drama helps students develop physically, emotionally and socially.

Italian (LOTE) Program

The LOTE Program offers the students both a cultural view of Italy as well as the opportunity of improving their linguistic skills through the Italian and English language connection.

The program also offers academic opportunities as well as lessons which aim to promote the students’ confidence through activities such as plays and projects.

There is also a focus on interesting facts about Italy and impressionable people of Italy such as Saints and other famous individuals.
