Wellbeing at Cana

At Cana Catholic Primary School we are committed to the care, safety and wellbeing of all children.

Wellbeing is more than just happiness. It's about empowering students by building life skills as whole person, being fulfilled in order to flourish and live a meaningful life.

At Cana Catholic Primary School we are committed to the care, safety and wellbeing of all children. Wellbeing is more than just happiness. It is about supporting students’ development of the capabilities required to thrive, contribute, and respond positively to the challenges and opportunities of life.

Wellbeing refers to students’ physical, social, spiritual and emotional development. At Cana Catholic Primary School we support this understanding by:

  • Explicitly teaching the Gospel values of responsibility, respect, honesty, fairness and reconciliation
  • Creating a safe and supportive environment
  • Fostering engagement and connection
  • Promoting personal and social capabilities
  • Adopting a whole-school approach to support wellbeing
  • Ensuring each classroom has consistent, predictable routines
  • Working in partnership with families

At Cana Catholic Primary School, our wellbeing policy directly aligns with the MACS Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement by creating a safe, predictable and supportive environment where high-impact, explicit teaching empowers every student to thrive, connect and actively engage in their learning journey.

  • A strong embedded strategy ‘Naming It’, used by students when they are experiencing a difficulty with other students on the playground, in the classroom and in life
  • Restorative practices to resolve conflicts by reflecting on who was affected, taking accountability and respectfully repairing relationships
  • Parent Support Group Meetings, where members of the school leadership team and the classroom teacher meet with parents/guardians of children with special needs to monitor learning plans and student progress towards specific goals
  • A Buddy Bench (pictured) which allows students to seek friendships with others at Recess and Lunchtime.
